Jeff Adler's essay, "'It is His First Offense. We Might As Well Let Him Go': Homicide and Criminal Justice in Chicago, 1875-1920" is among the essays reprinted in this year's edition of The Best American History Essays, published by the OAH. This is the second year in a row our department has had a featured article, with Juliana Barr's work appearing in the 2007 volume.
Sean Adams has been awarded a Graham Center course development grant.

featured in a new documentary, which will start running at the Hippodrome
on April 18. It's entitled "In Marjorie’s Wake:
A High Definition documentary recreating Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings’ 1933
journey down the St. John’s River."
Mark Thurner has won a Fulbright grant to go to Peru in the Spring of 2009 [4-08]
The UF International Center has announced the 16 winners of this year's Internationalizing the Curriculum Awards, and four of the winners are from this department. Congratulations to Mark Thurner, Louise Newman, Andrea Sterk, and Luise White.
Alpata: A Journal of History has taken second-place honors in the Gerald D. Nash award sponsored by Phia Alpha Theta History Honor Society. This is the second time the journal has received this honor.
Bill Link's newest book, Righteous Warrior: Jesse Helms and the Rise of Modern Conservatism, has just been released.
Jeff Needell's recent book, The Party of Order, has won two important book awards: the Roberto Reis BRASA Book Award, which recognizes "the two best books in Brazilian Studies that contribute significantly to promoting an understanding of Brazil" and the Conference on Latin American History's Warren Dean Memorial Prize, which "recognizes the book or article judged to be the most significant work on the history of Brazil published in English during the two years prior to the award year."
Drs. Adams, Adler, Jacobs, and Kovner have won Humanities Scholarship Enhancement Awards this year.
Nina Caputo's Nahmanides in Medieval Catalonia: History, Community, and Messianism has just appeared, from the University of Notre Dame Press.
Bob Zieger's For Jobs and Freedom: Race and Labor in America since 1865 (University Press of Kentucky) is now in print.
Mitch Hart's The Healthy Jew: The Symbiosis of Judaism and Modern Medicine (Cambridge University Press) will be appearing soon.
David Colburn's From Yellow Dog Democrats to Red State Republicans: Florida and Its Politics Since 1940 (University Press of Florida) is now available.
EUH graduate student Sam Pierce has been offered a visiting position at BYU for the coming year.
The USGS recently posted a biographical website for Junius Dovell (1911-1986), who was a faculty member at UF between 1946 and 1967.
