Courses and Registration
Getting information about courses
The Department of History offers a wide variety of
graduate courses, most of which are taught on a cyclical basis, every two
or three years.
For brief descriptions of the broad categories of graduate-level courses in the Department, see the Guide to Courses and Credits.
For a general listing of specific courses, along with descriptions of course content and objects, consult the Gradaute Catalogue available at the Graduate School's web site.
For listings of current and recently offered courses, students should check the official list of the University Registrar where scheduled classes are listed by semester by individual departments.
Finally, for more detailed information about current and forthcoming scheduled courses (including syllabi), we suggest students visit the web sites of individual faculty. To browse the web sites of history faculty by sub-discipline (African, Asian, European, Latin American, History of Science, US), please see the Department of History Faculty Directory .
If you have questions regarding courses, please contact the Program Assistant for the Graduate Coordinator, Kathleen Clay (007 Keene-Flint Hall; 352-392-4688), who oversees the registration process (see below).
The registration process
Graduate students may register for classes
during the designated pre-registration and registration periods (please
contact Yolanda Scott for details). They must meet with their Graduate
Advisor to discuss their plan of study prior to registering for courses.
Once they have met with their advisors, they must submit their registration
forms
[PDF]
to Kathleen Clay. She will then complete the registration process.
The key to successful registration is consultation and careful preparation, which includes meeting with your advisor, preplanning your schedule by listing alternative sections and courses, and by clearing any registration holds prior to your appointment time.
For additional information on Registering, see the official site of the University Registrar, which provides posted information on Admissions, Records & Registration, ISIS, and dozens of other topics: Office of the Registrar.
Making contact with faculty and
staff
The schedule of faculty office hours for the current semester (usually
posted at the end of the first week of classes) is available via a link
on the home page.
Because faculty schedules change each semester
normal posted hours for classes and advising also change. Should questions
arise regarding posted faculty schedules, please contact one of the department
staffmembers:
Linda Opper, Program Assistant for the Undergraduate Program
Rutecleia Zarin, Secretary
to the Chair & Associate Chair
Kathleen Clay, Program Assistant for the Graduate Coordinator
Erin Smith, Office Manager
