Programs of Study
The History Department offers graduate degrees in the five areas of study noted below. In addition to selecting a major field of study, doctoral students select a complementary Departmental Minor Field. The Department has three formally established minor fields of study – Atlantic History Gender History, Legal History – described below. In addition to these three formally established fields students may construct their own Departmental Minor Fields, building on strengths in the department and across the campus.
This section of the web page provides an introduction to each of these areas, including a summary of faculty and graduate students in each section. The curricular guidelines for each major and minor field are summarized in the Academic Program section of this website.
