Significant Dates 2008-09

This is a partial list of important departmental dates.  Other dates appear in the Graduate Student Handbook (the pocket calendar you will be given). 


Fall Semester 2008

August 7, 11, 14.           AMH Preliminary Written Examinations.

August 18-19.               University New Student Orientation.

August 15-22.               New Students meet with their major advisors.   [recommend August 20th]

August 21-22.               Departmental orientation.   (see attached calendar).

August 21.                    Registration.  History graduate students must obtain advisors’ signatures on registration forms for submission to Graduate Program Assistant.  (Most will have done this long in advance.)

August 22.                    Last day of regular registration period. Students must be registered by this day or they will be charged a late registration fee.

August 25.                    Classes begin.

August 23 – September 7.  Every entering graduate student must submit a Plan of Study.

August 22.                    History Department Opening Reception.   5:00-7:00.

August 29.                    Drop/Add Ends.

September 1.                 Labor Day.  No Classes.

September 5.                 Fee payments due to Financial Services by no later than 3:30pm.

September 13                HGS Picnic at Lake Wauburg.

September  -                 Each graduate student must make an appointment to discuss current status and plans with  Graduate Coordinator.

Sept 22-October 13.      Doctoral Qualifying Examinations (written components).

October 24-25.              Homecoming.  No Classes.

November 11.               Veterans’ Day.  No Classes.

November 27-28.          Thanksgiving.  No Classes.

December 10.               Last day of classes.



Spring Semester 2009

January

January 5.         Registration.  History graduate students must obtain advisors’ signatures on registration forms for submission.  (Most will have done this long in advance.) This is the only day of regular registration. Students must be registered by this day or they will be charged a $100 late registration fee.

January 6.         Classes begin.

January 6 – 16   Each graduate student must submit a Plan of Study or annual update.

January 12.       Drop-Add Ends.

January 16.       Fee payments due to Financial Services by no later than 3:30pm.

January 19.       Martin Luther King Jr. Day. No Classes.

February 2.       All advisors’ reports on their students are due to the Graduate Committee.

March 7-15.      Spring Break.  No Classes.

March 16-April 6.          Doctoral Qualifying Examination (written components)

April 22.           Last day of classes.

April 30, May 1-3.         Commencement.
