Dear Friends,

We’re so grateful for the support our program receives from our alumni and others.  Simply put, we could not sustain our current efforts without those contributions!  Your donations help fund research travel for History undergraduate and graduate students, awards for student excellence, our student-run history journal (Alpata), faculty research, visiting speakers, and much more.

You can give online to History at UF, and support the History Advancement Fund (004043).  Contributions to this fund help support a variety of student and faculty programs in the department, and are most welcome.  Please click here to contribute.

There are other ways you can support History at UF as well.  You could, for example, designate a gift to go to one of the department’s specific funds.  I’ve listed some funds of critical importance, below.

You may send your tax-deductible donations to:

University of Florida Foundation
PO Box 14425
Gainesville, Florida 32614-2425

Please indicate the fund that you wish to support on the memo line of your check.

Finally, you may wish to consider creating a new endowment, to support something of particular interest.  We’re always delighted to discuss new giving opportunities, and would welcome hearing from you.

On behalf of the staff, students, and faculty of the Department of History, thank you!

Joe Spillane
Department Chair

SPECIFIC DEPARTMENT FUNDS

Bridget Bernadette Phillips Scholarship Fund (003477)—Named for an outstanding former History student, the Phillips Fund helps to support current UF History majors to travel abroad to further their education.  This fund has supported many excellent students over the years, and we welcome your support to further this important mission.

Augustus M. Burns Memorial Lecture Series Fund (007805)—Created to honor the memory of Dr. Augustus M. Burns, this annual lecture series brings to campus outstanding figures in fields that were of interest to the late Dr. Burns.  Past speakers have included George McGovern, Stephen Ambrose, and John Hope Franklin.  This is the department’s most important public event of the year, and it needs continued support to sustain itself.

Pozzetta Memorial Fund (005505)—Created to honor the memory of our late colleague, Dr. George Pozzetta, this fund is one of the primary sources of support for History graduate student travel.  These travel funds are critical for students to conduct research, and present papers at conferences.

History Alumni Research Fund (014613)—Department of History alumni created this fund, to support faculty research and conference travel.  This is a vitally important fund, for it helps keep our program at the cutting edge of historical research—work which advances our understanding of the past, and which helps make graduate and undergraduate education at UF a special experience.  You can read the latest annual report on the fund here.
