Associate Professor Sheryl Kroen received her Ph.D in 1992 (History of Modern Europe) from the University of California at Berkeley, and her B.A. in 1984 from Princeton University. She joined University of Florida Department of History in 1994 after teaching at Pomona College. She has published Politics and Theater: The Crisis of Legitimacy in Restoration France (UC Press, 2000), and articles on 19th Century France, and Consumer Culture and Democracy in Europe. She has recently taught graduate and undergraduate courses on the history of consumer culture, society and the sexes in modern Europe, cultural history of the Marshall Plan, and French history.

Sheryl Kroen has received fellowships from the Fulbright, the French Government (Chateaubriand Fellowship), the NEH (summer and fullyear), and the Humboldt Foundation, as well as several grants from the University of Florida. She is a two-time recipient of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences teaching award.

Her research is divided between the political culture of post-revolutionary France (the subject of her first book) and the relationship between consumer culture and democracy in modern Europe (the topic of her current research project).
